The Ancient Greeks considered it one of the most sacred places on earth
(Excursion Price – 75 euros, Single Supplement 35 euros)
The Valley of the Temples, on the south coast of Sicily, is the largest archeological site in the world (aprox 400 acres). The Ancient Greeks built no less than seven major temples there, the remains of which can be admired in their varying forms of decay or survival. Even in their present state, the magnificence is undeniable. The history of centuries of strife and battle for this area makes for fascinating listening.
The area has been recognised as a UNESCO World heritage site.
After our visit we can walk through some of the streets of Agrigento and perhaps stop for a drink in one of the many elegant bars and caffes (drinks not included).
We end the evening with dinner in a lovely restaurant in the historical town centre.
