Making our olive oil this Year.

Holidays and Olive Oil

Hi all,

As some of you know already, every year at Pippa’s Paddock we harvest a very small amount of olives and press them here in Alia to produce some of our delicious Olive Oil. We only have around 50 trees and our production is really small. In the early year we only produced it for ourselves. After a while we discovered that we could sell off a hendfull of bottles as the production was more than we could use for our consumption.

Why is our olive oil – in all honesty, much like that in most of Sicily- so good? Because it is made for the fun and dedication of it all…   Some years, especially this year the crop is so sparse, that it is barely worth collecting. But we do it cause we love it… The olives are collected early when the quality is best but the quantity is less. And, all collection is done manually not with machines which handle the olives roughly which means they are deteriorating before they get to the press.

I decided to make a videoclip of this year’s production. We had two people come over from faraway places to help. Linda from Holland and Shaun from America. The two came to enjoy their holidays and olive oil making!!

Here is the videoclip… It’s very short – just a couple of minutes. Hope you enjoy it…
